Programming for 1st-5th Grade

Our innovative elementary programs aim to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens. Our programs are designed to empower youth to lead healthy lives, succeed in school, and become successful leaders in their community.

The Arts

Arts programs at Club foster creativity, confidence, and imagination among Club members through diverse, age appropriate programming ranging from acrylic painting to sculpture making. Our arts programs have something to capture the creativity of every youth.

Program Highlight – Fine Arts

The Fine Arts program is a collaborative effort to teach youth the fundamentals of art, such as color theory and art history, in a way that is engaging and educational. The goal of the Fine Arts program is to encourage artistic recognition in a culminating local exhibit.

Character & Leadership Development

These programs are designed to create space for Club members to develop leadership traits, practice being responsible, participate in decision making, and take part in giving back to their community and their Club. Through programs such as Peace Out and Youth for Unity, Club members learn traits that empower them to be productive citizens.

Program Highlight – Peace Out!

This program encourages students to learn constructive ways to communicate, listen, and build relationships with each other and as a community through dynamic group activities and lessons.

Program Highlight – Youth for Unity

This program provides youth with the groundwork that will help them better understand diversity and combat discrimination. It consists of activities and conversation starters that help members appreciate themselves as unique and special individuals and gives them tools to take personal leadership in confronting inequities.

Academic Success

At Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington we develop academic success programs that help to bridge the gap between the classroom and the student.

Program Highlight – Power Hour

Making Minutes Count: This program helps Club members achieve academic success by providing homework help, tutoring, and learning activities to help students become life-long learners. Youth development professionals utilize Power Points charts for tracking and rewarding participants’ progress.

Healthy Lifestyles

These programs are built to focus on the mental, emotional, and physical health of our Club members and are designed to help Club members build their social emotional skills, and develop healthy routines.

Program Highlight – SMART Girls

SMART Girls is a health, fitness, prevention, education and self-esteem enhancement program designed to meet girls’ developmental needs. Through dynamic interactive sessions, field trips and mentoring opportunities, Club girls explore personal and cultural attitudes and values as they build skills for good health; physically, emotionally, and socially.
