Vancouver, WA – The Board of Directors of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington is pleased to announce the appointment of Francisco Bueno as the organization’s new Executive Director. Francisco will join the organization on October 8th, 2018. Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington is a non-profit dedicated to ensuring all young people reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
“We are so fortunate to have someone of Francisco Bueno’s caliber. His work experience, education, and past history with our organization will bring tremendous value to our Clubs,” said Patrick Ginn, President of the Board of Directors.
Francisco started his relationship with Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest WA in 2008 as an AmeriCorps Volunteer. Following his term of service he was hired as an Assistant Club Director. Shortly thereafter, he was promoted to manage the Mentoring Services and Outcomes Management process. His role expanded to include the establishment and oversight of the College Prep program, designed to give youth the tools and support to succeed in school, graduate, and go on to post-secondary education. Francisco left the organization in 2013 to become the Program Director at College Possible in Portland, where he lead the program team dedicated to making college admission and success possible for 1,150 low-income, racially diverse students through an intensive curriculum of coaching and support.
Francisco holds a BA from Claremont McKenna College and a Master of Nonprofit Administration from the University of Notre Dame.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington’s current Executive Director, Elise Menashe, is retiring after 16 years of dedicated service. Under her tenure, the organization grew from one elementary site and an annual budget of $300,000 to six elementary sites and two teen sites and an annual budget of $3,000,000. She will assist with the transition through the end of the year.
About the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Washington
Helping kids succeed is our mission and passion. For 17 years, we have been providing a safe, positive environment for the youth who need us most. We’re one of the only agencies in Clark County to offer daily, affordable after-school and summer programs, with a special focus on under-served neighborhoods. We have six elementary sites and two teen sites serving the Clark County area. Every year more than 2,700 youth benefit from the caring adult guidance and rich variety of programs offered at our Clubs. Combined, our sites serve an average of 720 members daily. Two-thirds of our Club members qualify for free or reduced-price meals at school and 43 percent come from single parent homes.
Safety is our first priority, but our mission is about more than just keeping kids out of trouble. It’s about giving youth something positive and constructive to do. We offer high-quality, structured enrichment programs in three core areas: academic success, character and leadership, and healthy lifestyles. We also provide mentoring and tutoring, gang prevention and intervention services, family outreach activities, and nutritious meals and snacks. For as little as $60 per year, Club members can access our programs and services five days a week, all year long. No one is turned away for inability to pay. Our work is making a difference. Research affirms that youth who take part in after school programs like ours gain self-esteem, increase academic achievement, and have fewer problem behaviors.
